10 Stretch Mark Remedies That Actually Work
Let’s face it, no one wants stretch marks, or striae atrophicae as they’re known in the scientific community. Stretch mark sufferers are almost certainly self-conscious about their appearance — it’s difficult not to be!
The trick to getting rid of stretch marks is to understand why people get them in the first place. Stretch marks are caused by the dermis, the layer of skin that lies between the epidermis and the tissues underneath it, tearing. These tears may occur as a result of rapid growth or weight gain, as well as changes in hormone levels, particularly during critical life stages such as puberty.
The biggest issue, apart from having them in the first place, is that stretch marks are extremely difficult to remove! Aside from expensive procedures like laser treatments and microdermabrasion, some people swear by a few home remedies for treating them. The ancient Greeks and Romans, for example, used olive oil.
With that in mind, why not try a few of the tried-and-true solutions mentioned below?
1. Vicks VapoRub
2. Vicks VapoRub, Coconut Oil, Coffee Grounds
Create a paste out of the coffee grounds and coconut oil, apply a layer of Vicks VapoRub to your stomach, and then rub the coconut-oil-and-coffee-grounds paste on top. Wrap it four times in Saran wrap and set it aside for 30 minutes.
3. Castor Oil
Apply a coat of castor oil to your stomach, wrap Saran wrap four times around your stomach, and stay still for 30 minutes.
4. Sugar, Oil, Lemon Juice and Vitamin E
One spoonful of sugar, one teaspoon of olive oil or castor oil, lemon juice, and half a vitamin E capsule are needed for this natural remedy. Combine all of the ingredients until they form a smooth paste, then apply it to your stretch marks in circular motions for two to three minutes.
5. Onions
It’ll make your eyes sweat, but it’ll be worth it. Cut red onion rings in half and rub your stretch marks with one at a time, at least 60 seconds per onion ring, a few times twice a day. If you’re finished, blend the onion pieces until they form a thick paste, then add it to the affected area every few hours.
6. Lemons
7. Apricot Oil
Mix one teaspoon of apricot oil with a half a teaspoon of cornmeal to make a scrub. Apply this scrub to your stretch marks and gently massage for ten minutes before cleaning the area with water.
8. Egg Whites
Break an egg in half and separate the white from the yolk. After beating the egg white for one minute, add it to your stretch marks and leave it on for ten minutes.
